The main objective of the Special Rapporteur’s visit was to assess the situation of the human rights of migrants in the Darién region, on the border between Panama and Colombia. The Special Rapporteur took the opportunity to examine information received on the overall response of Panama to mixed movements of migrants and refugees in the country, as well as challenges and opportunities in ensuring the protection and promotion of the human rights of migrants and refugees residing in or transiting through Panama, including recent migration movements from north to south. During his visit, the Special Rapporteur met with relevant governmental authorities, representatives of civil society and religious groups, members of the United Nations country team and members of the migrant and refugee community residing in the country. The findings concerning his official visit to Colombia, held from 6 to 12 February 2025, will be available in a separate report of the Special Rapporteur. * The summary of the report is being circulated in all official languages.
