III. Protection of the existence of and prevention of violence against religious
minorities
The People of Champa Descent Living at Conditions of Diaspora Academy on item III
Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is (…) and I would like to thank you for giving me the floor to speak
on behalf of the Champa. I would like to speak on the topic of the protection of minorities. We have,
approximately, one million people from Champa who are living in conditions of diaspora throughout the
world in Cambodia, Laos and China. The Champa Descent Asociation is a non-governmental
organisation. We defend the rights of the Champa living in diaspora. Our organisation is now planning to
make a recommendation to provide with the protection of the rights of minorities. The recommendation
we are making is to take special measures to protect the rights of this minority. Moreover, the
government should review its own policies to protect minority and make sure that the protection of
minority is reflected in its programs. The government must take measures to make sure there is no
discrimination in the area of culture, religious, economic, and political life. The government should make
sure that support is provided to religious minorities to allow them to uphold peaceful contact with other
members of the minority in their own country and abroad. The government should provide information
to provide with information on the minority. Thank you very much.
