Thank you, Chair.
I am Christine Kandie, Executive Director of Endorois Indigenous Women Empowerment Network in
Kenya. The organization is an expert in intersectionality, minority rights, women, and people with
disability. It does works to build the voice of the most marginalized people through training,
research, and advocacy. The right of semi-nomadic pastorialists who are evicted from the ancestral
land in areas of Lake Bogoria, and we estimate to be around 45 000 population. Chair, the Endorois
wish to bring to your attention the unimplemented human rights case number 276-03 in the African
Regional Human Rights system concerning community rights to our land in 2009.
In the year 2022, Kenya held general election with a devolved system that could allow participation
of minorities. However, 24 counties out of 47 did not fulfil their quota requirement of 2
representatives of person with disabilities. Person with disabilities in Endorois community are even
more marginalized without representation. On 2 May, 2022, 8 people were shot and killed in
[inaudible] in connection with their own [inaudible]. The authorities have done nothing to respond,
compensate the community, or even find and punish the perpetrators. It is estimated that 1 billion
Kenyan schillings [inaudible] have been lost, 30 000 people have been displaced and more than 1,000
people killed. I call on the government of Kenya to honor full implementation of the Endorois’ case
and carry out a review of the national disability policy that was last reviewed in 2008. Thank you for
