I hope you are doing well, thank you for contacting me on the subject of minority rights and the
role of international institutions, especially the human rights organizations associated with the
United Nations, as a civil activist working in the field of minority rights in Iraq, especially in the
Kurdistan Region of Iraq, I live in Germany to study the Masters.
Since 2006, I have been working in the field of minority rights, especially the rights of the Yazidi
minority in Iraq, Our efforts and civil activities have increased in Iraq after Da'esh (Isis) entered
Iraq.
At the international level, our efforts have been minimal, In 2014, I had the opportunity to
participate in the 7th Minority Rights Forum and to speak for three minutes. This participation
has played a major role locally and internationally for the voice of minorities and the demand for
their rights. Governments have become more concerned with civil rights institutions.
The second participation of the 9th Minority Rights Forum 2016 has played a bigger role
because we have gained sufficient experience from the first participation on how to participate in
international forums where we delivered a speech, but due to the lack of time we focused only
on the most prominent and important problems and suffering suffered by members of the
minority, Recommendations and solutions were provided to protect minority members.
During the forum, many civil society organizations referred to the negative role played by some
countries in protecting minorities. This prompted the representatives of these countries to
intervene and cut off the speeches of some civil society organizations, which caused great
dissatisfaction among many democratic countries.
I believe that the Minority Rights Forum has a great role to push and encourage governments to
protect the principles of minority rights. This is evidenced by the visit of the Special Rapporteur
on Minority Rights Rita Izsak to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and her close knowledge of the
suffering of minorities from Yazidis and Christians, Especially after the attack by Da'ash fighters
(Isis) on their towns and villages. Therefore, opening of doors by the international community to
civic organizations, human rights organizations and civil activists is very important. There are
many minority activists who have a big role at the local and international level. We hope there
will be bigger and stronger initiatives from the UN to develop minority activists. And to give
them the opportunity to claim the right s of their people.
