Concluding observations: Paraguay

The Committee considered the third periodic report of Paraguay (CRC/C/PRY/3) at
its 1457th and 1459th meetings (see CRC/C/SR.1457 and 1459), held on 12 January 2010,
and adopted, at the 1501st meeting, held on 29 January 2010, the following concluding
observations.

The Committee welcomes the submission of the third periodic report and the written
replies to its list of issues, which gave a better understanding of the situation of children in
the State party. It also appreciates the presence of a high-level and multisectoral delegation
and the frank and open dialogue with the delegation.
B.
Follow-up measures undertaken and progress achieved by the State
party

The Committee welcomes a number of positive developments in the reporting
period, including the adoption of legislative measures taken with a view to implementing
the Convention, such as:
(a)
Act No. 1600/2000 against domestic violence.
(b)
The Code on Children and Young Persons (Código de la Niñez y la
Adolescencia, by Act No.1680/2001);
(c)
Act No. 1938/2002, according to which unaccompanied children who seek
asylum are to be treated in accordance with the principle of the best interest of the child;
(d)
Act No. 2169/2003 establishing the age of majority at 18;
(e)
Act No. 2861/2006 to suppress the trade and commercial dissemination of
pornographic material depicting minors or the disabled;
