Yezidis Cultural Centre on Item III
Thank you Mr Chairperson. My name is Walid Halid, I am from the Yazidi House in the
Netherlands. The terrorists and the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant have attacked, as everyone
knows, the Sinjar region on August 3 2014; the region fell into the hands of the Daesh terrorists.
And the cries of children were heard everywhere. And 1,200 people were subsequently killed,
6,413 were taken as slaves including 3,500 women. The women were sold in the slave market
publicly. And 345,000 people have gone into [exile]; many have left for Kurdistan, as well as
Turkey and Syria. The Daesh terrorists have exploded 42 religious sites; 2,754 of the captors
were liberated to date. And 948 women and some 300 men. There are some 3,000 who are in
the hands of Daesh. 1,800 women were, 1,825 men. According to the Yezidi Institution in
Kurdistan, 1,600 children and young persons are being trained in warfare and suicide
operations. 21 mass burial sites have been identified. These crimes have affected a large
number of Yezidis who… There were 750,000 Yezidis who had to emigrate to other countries to
seek refuge in other countries of Europe. To date there are 3,000 people in the Greek islands in
very difficult circumstances. Therefore, we appeal to this forum and all United Nations
institutions to protect the human rights of religious minorities, including Yezidis in Iraq and in
Syria so as to avoid re-occurrence of these tragedies. Thank you.
