Thank you Madam Chair for giving me this opportunity to take the floor. Just
now several organisations in their statement made some comment in relation to
Xinjiang. So the Chinese delegation would like to make a statement in reply. We
think that in this [Forum] meeting, all the statement should pay respect to the
principles of purposes of the United Nations charter. Secondly, Xinjiang is a
separate part of Chinese territory and is a region where ethnic minorities live.
[Similarly to all of China], Xinjiang has gone through tremendous changes and
the Uyghur people manage their own affairs. They manage the economic and
the social construction of their region. Anybody who has been to that region
can see that the changes there, we can also see the advertisements in the
Uyghur language and we can see that Uyghur compatriots they participate in
the social life in their own language. Thirdly, the Chinese government has made
great investment to the development of Xinjiang with regard to the natural
resources and also to the protection of the ecology and to the promotion of the
development of economy education. And Xinjiang has undergone tremendous
changes. And if anybody is interested, you should read the white paper
published by the Chinese government. The paper used large amount of facts to
explain the changes that has taken place in Xinjiang. Thank you.
