This report is to contain information on relevant developments in the field of minority rights worldwide, including the work of United Nations human rights bodies and mechanisms, as well as on the activities undertaken by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) at headquarters and in the field that contribute to the promotion of and respect for the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities. The present report is being submitted pursuant to these resolutions. During the 2016 reporting period, OHCHR continued to address the situation of minorities. The strategies and initiatives of OHCHR, in line with the guidance note of the Secretary-General on racial discrimination and protection of minorities, aim to promote the implementation of the Declaration.
