Gunayatan Azerbaijan
Madame Chair. The nation of Azerbaijani Turks in Iran keeps expressing its readiness time after time
for an inclusive society to ensure diverse, resilient, and peaceful societies to manage risks. The same
is true with most of the other minority nations in Iran. Unfortunately, minority nations in Iran are
exposed to disguised risks. Without addressing the systematic suppression of Azerbaijani Turks in
Iran, their fundamental rights are violated, including cultural and linguistic rights. The denial of
education in their mother language, a direct breach of Article 27 of the International Covenant on
Civil and Political Rights, ICCPR, and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Minorities. The Islamic
Republic of Iran continuously violate the rights of this nation through intensified pressure and the
monopolization of power. We urge the United Nations to use international mechanisms, specifically
the Human Rights Council and the Special Rapporteur on Iran, to seek accountability and require
them to take responsibility for their arbitrary acts against Azerbaijanis. Our Canadian Association
appeals the UN mandate holder on minorities to find ways of exposing the disguised risks against the
nation of Azerbaijan in Iran. Madam Chair, I would also like to highlight that it was stated in this
session yesterday that Iran's doors are open to everyone. We therefore request that these doors also
be open to the United Nations Special Rapporteurs and the Fact-Finding Committee. Thank you very
much.
