ASSOCIAZIONE SOVRANAZIONALE POPOLO VENETO
Honorable members,
I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity to address you today on
behalf of the Veneto People's Association to an issue of crucial importance for
the respect of the rights of peoples. The linguistic diversity is an invaluable heritage that enriches our humanity, and today, I address you with an appeal to pay
attention to the valorization of the Venetian language in the context of the path
to autonomy for the Veneto Region.
The Venetian language, with its history and culture, is a fundamental element of
our community's identity. It is a living testimony to the rich local traditions, art,
and peculiarities that characterize the Venetian people. However, in an increasingly interconnected world, minority languages risk being marginalized and losing their place in the global cultural fabric.
Promoting and valorizing the Venetian language is not only an act of cultural
preservation but also a crucial step towards strengthening the autonomy of the
Veneto Region. Recognizing and preserving linguistic diversity is a pillar for
building inclusive and resilient societies, that respect the cultural roots of their
communities.
In this context, we hope that the United Nations can support the implementation
of policies that foster the promotion of regional languages, offering resources
and support for the preservation and teaching of the Venetian language in educational and cultural institutions.
In addition, we encourage collaboration among different regions and language
communities to foster exchange and mutual understanding.
We are confident that the United Nations’ attention and commitment to the valorization of the Venetian language is a significant step in promoting a more inclusive global society that is aware of its many cultural facets, in full historical, cultural, and political recognition of the Venetian people, also considering Article 1
of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights signed in 1966.
Thank you for your attention and commitment to cultural and linguistic diversity in the international context.
