Speaker: The regional calculations now are targeting the interests of minorities and going
even beyond that to target entire people and this is what we’re witnessing right now on the
borders of Iraq. Through the air raids and security intervention in our areas we are facing a
new kind of warfare, a new persecution of minorities. Through a water war because now the
share of water in Iraq is being targeted which undermines the livelihood in certain areas and
redistributes the geography of the area. And although the federal government works towards
allowing each governorate to choose its language based on a demographic calculation,
we’re seeing that some areas are trying to undermine the identities of certain minorities,
preventing them from using their language, and from declaring their own identities. There is
also a targeting of youth leaders and rights defenders in the 2019 protests. But there are
some good efforts that keep us going. When we see that the Iraqi government is trying to
work with the local populations, bringing efforts together to defend the minorities as we
counter the efforts of evil as represented by ISIS. And so we have to celebrate our marchers
who had died for the cohesion of the Iraqi people and we wish a speedy recovery for the
