Hello everyone, My name is Dalia I am speaking to you as an Ezidi women from Sinjar Iraq on
behalf of TavaSor:
Looking down on the slopes of the Sinjar Mounts, those past few months, one has seen tents
appear here and there, planted right in the ruins of villages. Nine years after escaping ISIS’
genocidal fury, Ezidi survivors are slowly returning from Internally Displaced People’s camps.
There, under the constant threat of their torturers, they have been waiting for the reconstruction
of their houses and the return of their loved ones for almost a decade now – in vain.
On August 3 rd , 2014, ISIS invaded Sinjar in northern Iraq, home to several cultural and
religious minorities, aimed at eliminating all those deemed infidels. Thousands killed, kidnapped
and Some 300,000 people were forced to flee to resettle in IDP camps or seek refuge in
Europe.
The recognition of the genocide from 17 countries and international institutions is a crucial step
– but it is not enough, to stop the ongoing genocide and it’s terrifing humanitrian consequences.
Tava Sor urges International community to reaffirm their dedication to international justice and
peace through:
- Set up an international mechanism to provide humanitarian aid, psychological support to the
Ezidi community rather than depending on delivering millions of dollars to the most corrupted
local actors in Iraq.
- Free Sinjar from the conflict and ensure the safe and sustainable return to and peaceful
reconstruction of the Ezidi community in its homeland.
- The establishment of a UN regional office and human rights defense team in Sinjar to
document and monitor the local political situation, address human rights violations.
- The support of Ezidi refugees worldwide in their collective healing, family reunification and
reconstruction in their host countries.
Ezidis today fears another mass atrocity will happen. April 2022 Within days over 4 million hate
speeches were circulated against Ezidis in the Kurdistan Region. As UN Secretary General
stated that “In Iraq, the recent proliferation of hate speech targeting Ezidis in Sinjar has stoked
fears among the community that it will once again be the target of atrocity crimes”
On August 3 rd , 2014, ISIS attempted to eradicate the Ezidi community. A decade Later, the
Genocide is ongoing, giving up on our rights would be the victory for ISIS and It’s
accomplices.
