Dear President and Honorable Members My name is Marika Farinelli, I am 19 years old and I was born in the United Nations Free Territory of Trieste. I have come to the realization that I and everyone that like me lives in this land, find ourselves to be stateless, despite all your international laws and treaties tell me that I am a citizen of the Free Territory of Trieste. ON January tenth nineteen forty-seven, the United Nations Security Council voted the sixteenth resolution, which established my State, placing it under United Nations protection, and guaranteeing its independence and integrity. But In 1954, following the Chapter twelve of the United Nations Statute, on the mandate of the Allied and Associated Powers, my State was passed into Italian administration, which has to date never complied, to any of the treaties signed, inserted and ratified in the Italian legal system. Therefore depriving us all of our political, economic and social rights, Nobody has recalled the State Administration, No one has moved a finger, nor opposed the behavior of the State Administrator which continues to annex territory and titles, destroying our International Free Port and causing the youth like me to flee in the hopes of finding a future. I was taught that this attitude is called Debellation. You have abandoned us... And I ask you, United nations, How can you sit here today and judge those countries that are oppressing countless peoples around the world leaving them stateless when you have left us, your very own state to that very same fate? You must show the world that you want to help all of us here today, by setting an example and by helping us to become what you created, therefore you will give hope to those who are suffering more than us, and to all those that turn to you looking for help. Otherwise, how can they not help but ask themselves, if the UNITED NATIONS cannot put into effect their own land the Free Territory of Trieste, how can I ever hope they will establish mine?
