Ms Rita Izsák, the United Nations Independent Expert on Minority Issues, first
congratulated the Chair for her work performed then thanked Mr Adama Dieng, the
United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and Prof. Heiner
Bielefeldt, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief. Ms
Izsák expressed the wish to enhance the cooperation between these different United
Nations mandates. Welcoming the active and positive participation of all stakeholders to
this session, she emphasised that there had been a strong message about the need for
dialogue and to build bridges of understanding, acceptance and trust. She also stressed the
need for better implementation of the Declaration on Minority Rights to guarantee the
rights of religious minorities. She highlighted the fact that this Forum and its
recommendations only fulfil their potential when they are translated into action on the
ground.
