Cases involving members of the Cao Dai and Hoa Hao sects: According to the information received, 3,500 members of the Cao Dai indigenous Vietnamese religious sect were arrested in Tay Ninh province in June 1990 and charged with ’harbouring reactionary and counter-revolutionary troops’. An additional 1,000 Cao Dai believers were reportedly arrested in the same province two months later. It has also been alleged that members of the Hoa Hao indigenous sect have also been persecuted."
