Brazil Moderator. Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen. It's my honor to address this distinguished forum. Brazil recognizes the potential of young men and young women to promote positive change in their communities, their countries, and the world at large. As the number of young people grows globally, it's imperative to include them in efforts to achieve peace and development, as well as to promote human rights for all. The youth today are strategic social actors and should play active roles in all fields of social and political life. They need to be heard and involved in decision-making. They are indeed key elements for the development of society who must be taken into account in order to eradicate poverty and inequality, to promote a culture of peace, and to foster sustainable development. In this regard, Brazil is committed to work towards the empowerment of young women and men, enabling them to reach their full potential and to have real opportunities for active, effective, and constructive participation in society. The promotion and protection of the human rights of all minorities is also a priority for Brazil. We acknowledge the aggravated vulnerability of young people belonging to minority groups and underscore the relevance of developing targeted public policies to leave no one behind. It's particularly important to promote inclusive education and employment policies which take into account the needs and challenges of young persons from minority groups. It's also crucial to promote political participation so that their interests can be better represented. Inclusion is key to tackle vulnerability, encourage participation, and avoid criminal activities. Unemployment and social exclusion are factors that profoundly affect the livelihoods of young people across the globe. Social inequities contribute to the erosion of young people's rights and prospects, thereby increasing their vulnerability and having a negative impact in the society as a whole.
