Qashqaie Human Rights Defender Committee
Thank you, Mr. President. Iran is a multinational and multilinguistic and multicultural country. Before
the Farsi government, each of the states had a degree of independence at the time with historical and
cultural identities. The Islamic Republic regime, with the use of the security law at the issue of nations
and ethnicities in the past four decades, has eradicated them [POINT OF ORDER]
Article 15 of the Constitution on the teaching of non-Farsi language has never been implemented in
Iran. Turks constitute the major parts of Iran's population. Among all the ethnics and nations of Iran,
the Qashqaie Turks who live in the southern regions of Iran have been under the greatest pressure and
repression. In the very early years, the regime of the Islamic Republic suppressed the Qashqaie people
and executed Qashqaie leaders, and through all-embracing pressure, provided a platform for their
assimilation and destruction. Qashqaie Turks face are a population of about four million people
without any even an independent radio [INAUDIBLE] and in the absence of interference of
international bodies, this nation will disappear from scene. For example, the tribal and the nomadic
Qashqaie community is dying because of the spiteful policies of the regime of the Islamic Republic.
Policies of the Islamic Republic regime toward non-Farsi Nations are cruel and discriminatory and in
violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Conventions. Therefore, I call
on the Human Rights Council of the United Nations and all related international bodies to intervene as
soon as possible on the issue of non-Farsi nations in Iran [CUT OFF BY CHAIR]
