In conformity with the provisions of paragraph 4 of Commission on Human Rights resolution 1986/20, according to which the Special Rapporteur "... shall seek credible and reliable information from Governments, as well as specialized agencies, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations, including communities of religion or belief", a request for information dated 29 August 1986 was addressed in a note verbale to Governments and in letters to United Nations bodies, specialized agencies, and interested intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations. 21. On 10 December 1986, replies had been received from the following Governments: Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Federal Republic of, Iraq, Israel, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Peru, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Uganda, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States of America. 22. The following United Nations bodies have also replied: United Nations Children's Fund, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, United Nations University. 23. Replies were also received from the following specialized agencies: International Labour Organisation, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. 24. The Organization of American States also replied. 25. The following non-governmental organizations, in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council or on its Roster, also replied: Amnesty International, Baha'i International Community, Commission of the Churches on International Affairs of the World Council of Churches, Four Directions' Council, Friends World Committee for Consultation, International Association for Religious Freedom, International Commission of Jurists, International Federation for the Protection of the Rights of Ethnic, Religious, Linguistic and Other Minorities, International Humanist and Ethnical Union, International PEN, Inter-Parliamentary Union, Lutheran World Federation, Minority Rights Group, Survival International, World Union for Progressive Judaism. 26. The Special Rapporteur also received information from various other religious or secular sources reporting alleged infringements of the provisions of the Declaration in many countries. 27. In fulfilling his mandate, the Special Rapporteur met members of non-governmental organizations and individuals at Lisbon. He also visited Geneva for consultations at the Centre for Human Rights in July, October and November 1986. During those consultations, he received the Permanent Observer for the Holy See to the United Nations Office at Geneva and representatives of non-governmental organizations, namely, the Lutheran World Federation, the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs of the World Council of Churches, the Baha'i International Community, Pax Romana and the World Union
