Implementation of the Third United Nations Decade
for the Eradication of Poverty (2018–2027)

alignment of that work with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development,
Reiterating the pledge that no one will be left behind, reaffirming the
recognition that the dignity of the human person is fundame ntal, and the wish to see
the Goals and targets met for all nations and peoples and for all segments of society,
and recommitting to endeavour to reach the furthest behind first,
Recommitting to ensuring that no country or person is left behind and to focusing
our effort where the challenges are greatest, including by ensuring the inclusion and
participation of those who are furthest behind,
Underlining the priority and urgency given by Heads of State and Government
to the eradication of poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme
poverty, as expressed in the outcomes of the major United Nations conferences and
summits in the economic, social and related fields,

Takes note of the report of the Secretary-General; 14

Recognizes that the Third United Nations Decade for the Eradication of
Poverty (2018–2027) will complement the ongoing efforts of the international
community to implement, as applicable, inter alia, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development, 15 the Addis Ababa Action Agenda of the Third International
Conference on Financing for Development, 16 the Paris Agreement adopted under the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, 1 the Sendai Framework
for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, 11 the New Urban Agenda, 3 the outcome
document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development entitled
“The future we want”,5 the Istanbul Programme of Action for the Least Developed
Countries for the Decade 2011–2020, 17 as well as the Political Declaration of the
Comprehensive High-level Midterm Review of the Implementation of the Istanbul
Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2011–2020, 18
the SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway, 19 the Vienna
Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries for the D ecade 2014–
2024, 20 the declaration entitled “Our ocean, our future: call for action” adopted at the
United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable
Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine
resources for sustainable development, 21 the United Nations strategic plan for forests
2017–2030 22 and Agenda 2063 of the African Union, as well as its first 10 -year
implementation plan and its continental programme embedded in the resolutions of
the General Assembly on the New Partnership for Africa’s Development and regional
initiatives, such as the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme;

Also recognizes the contribution that the Second Decade has made to
poverty eradication, and underlines the importance of drawing lessons from the
implementation of the Second Decade and the Millennium Development Goals, in
particular with respect to strengthening national statistical capacity and monitoring
systems to ensure access to data which are of high quality, accessible, timely, reliable
and disaggregated by income, sex, age, race, ethnicity, migration status, disability and
