The Government provided the Special Rapporteur with these approximate data, but pointed out
that the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses will introduce the ethnic variable into the
census of the population and living conditions in 2005 so that more precise figures can be
gathered. Consultations are under way on this matter with the ethnic groups and indigenous
peoples concerned. The data on the autonomous regions were supplied by CEDEHCA.
