Mousa Basrawi
Thank you Madame Chair, ladies and gentlemen, distinguished participants. It is an honor to speak
today as a Kurdish citizen from [inaudible] in north and east Syria, carrying the voice of a people who
have endured decades of hardship, yet continue to believe in peace, dignity, and a just future for all
Syrians. We, the Kurds of Syria, affirm our legitimate right to be clearly recognized in the Syrian
Constitution as an indigenous component of the country with full national, cultural, linguistic, and
political rights. We also believe that a democratic, federal system offers the most democratic
framework to protect diversity and ensure fair participation for all communities in governing Syria.
For decades, more than 300,000 Kurds were denied citizenship and a large area of land and property
were taken through discriminatory policies. Today, we call for the full restoration of citizenship to all
those stripped of it and the return of lands and properties to their rightful owners in order to correct
these historical injustices. Ladies and gentlemen, Kurdish forces stood at the front line in the fight
against ISIS, sacrificing thousands of lives, not only to defend their own regions, but to protect
humanity as a whole. These sacrifices must be acknowledged through genuine commitment to
building a fair and inclusive state. We also advise that lasting peace in Syria requires meaningful
transitional justice, a process that reveals the truth, repairs the harm, and guarantees [inaudible]. In
closing, we extend our hand to all our partners in Syria, we believe that the future of our country can
only be built through recognition, equality, and partnership among all its people. In Kurdish, I thank
you.
