Association mondiale pour la justice et le droit des victims We want to alert on the need of good practices and approaches in Sri Lanka to save those Tamils who are suffering on the island from cultural genocide and forced occupation by the Sri Lankan government with heavy militarization in the north and east of Sri Lanka. In the north and east of Sri Lanka, [inaudible] Tamil members are waiting for their loved ones. Instead of finding a solution for them, this council has continued to support the militarization of the north and east of Sri Lanka by the Sri Lankan military with the IMF and European Council continuing to support the [inaudible]. During the genocidal war against [inaudible], there were more than 175,000 Tamils who were killed or unaccounted for, including 146,679 people were unaccounted for only in [inaudible] and that too, only during the last 6-7 months from December 2008 to May 2009. Last September, we commemorated [inaudible] who lost his life, who fasted and sacrificed his life without food and water for 12 days, and who died at last. 36 years later, Tamil civil society is on the streets with the same request he had 36 years ago. We would like to call upon UNHRC members and other affiliated UN agencies and member states to adopt as a matter of the utmost urgency the following measures: -accept the right self-determination of the [inaudible] Tamils and organize a referendum under the United Nations to recognize the genocide resolution passed unanimously in the northern [inaudible] regional council; -direct appropriate measures at the International Criminal Court outlining that the affected Tamils, council members to have a new resolution to appoint a country-specific special rapporteur for Sri Lanka.
