Pausing development aid, considering it, or making it permanent is what states that claim to stand
by human rights do. Article 4 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child states that “each state
must take responsibility for and use its resources to fulfill children’s rights. Where necessary states
shall cooperate internationally”. You have failed to live up to your expectations, because cutting aid
when Palestine needs it most is anything but taking responsibility for fulfilling children’s rights. How
can this still happen? The numbers we hear on the news, the heartbreaking number of Palestinian
children losing their lives, are not just deaths, as it is declared as, but they are murders. Yes, I am
talking about the states that claim to be humanitarian, but retreat, avoid, and prove their
inhumanity when Palestinian children are murdered. You do not have to come from a certain
country to be able to understand that a genocide is taking place right now at this moment, here
where I stand in the UN hall. It is enough to be a human. Behind every life there is a story, a chapter
that ends without continuation. In Gaza, instead of being a place to heal, hospitals are being turned
into morgues. Article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child says “children have the right
the best possible health, access to healthcare and rehabilitation”. Children, or rather fetuses, lose
their lives before they even have time to begin them. Other children lose their lives before they have
time to say the word “mother”. Why is that? Well, because they no longer have any mother left to
call mother. How can this still happen? How?
