Item 5: Towards a lasting peace: positive initiatives to better protect the rights of minorities to prevent conflicts Thank you chair, My organization is part of over 7100 organizations including 218 ECOSOC Accredited organizations, across the world who make a joint Statement at United Nations under A/HRC/48/NGO/138, Calls for New United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution to Protect Tamils from Genocide. We call upon the United Nations members and Agencies to : • Recognize the genocide resolution passed unanimously in the Northern Provincial Council of Sri Lanka on 10th February,2015. (A/HRC/48/NGO/138) • Support a Resolution seeks an UN inquiry to investigate the genocide of the Tamil Nation in Sri Lanka by successive Sri Lankan Governments, • to Refer Sri Lanka at the International Criminal Court. • to appoint a Special Rapporteur to monitor and investigate ongoing human rights violations and repression against the Tamil Nation. • The Sri Lankan government is still using the ban imposed on the LTTE by some countries as a tool to suppress the democratic voices and activities of the Tamil people in the North and East today even in the absence of the LTTE. Therefore, the countries concerned should take note of this and take appropriate action. To the Special Rapporteurs and Treaty Bodies experts. • Please help us to ensure to protect human rights defenders in Sri Lanka to carry out their legitimate work, in a safe and enabling environment without fear of threats, acts of intimidation or reprisals of any kind witnesses and families seeking truth and justice. To the members of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee • To recognize Eelam Tamil as Non-Self-Governing Territories • To bring the Right to Self-determination of Eelam Tamils at the 4th committee and hears statements from Tamil elected representatives as well as petitioners, dispatches visiting missions, and organises seminars on the political, social, economic and educative situation in the Territories under Sri Lankan occupation. To the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, Ms. Alice Nderitu to have an interactive dialogue with Tamil victims and their representatives. To Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on the Responsibility to Protect to recognize the failure of United Nations to prevent Tamils from Genocide and propose appropriated measures to protect Tamils from Genocide.
