E/CN.4/2006/74 page 3 To date, the independent expert has met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, members of the High Commissioner’s staff, and country mission representatives in Geneva. In conjunction with other mandate-holders, she has submitted two communications to Governments. She has met with NGOs, including representatives of minority communities. And she has participated in a United Nations-sponsored Regional Workshop for the Americas, entitled “Strategies for the inclusion of people of African descent in programmes to reduce poverty, especially to achieve Millennium Development Goal 1”, in Chincha, Peru. Finally, she attended a meeting at the Organization of American States in Washington D.C., where she delivered a paper supporting a proposed inter-American convention against racial discrimination.
