Minority groups, such as the Afrikaners in South Africa, have made and continue to make significant contributions in the fields of sport, culture, civil society, arts, science, agriculture, and more. However, they remain the targets of scapegoating, villainization by politicians and the government, as well as discriminatory laws and incitement of violence and threats to their private property rights. In 2025, the human rights situation in South Africa, especially regarding minority rights, has continued to deteriorate. The government’s 145 racebased laws, of which many are racially discriminatory are increasing in number and severity. Private property rights are increasingly under threat and incitement of violence and hatred against minority groups from powerful politicians are escalating. Critics of the government are subject to intimidation, censorship, and police investigation. Minority heritage, language, and education are being targeted, attacked, and marginalized. Hateful chants like “Kill the Boer, kill the farmer”, which incite farm murders and killing of minorities in South Africa, particularly the white minority and Afrikaner minority, are done with impunity, and the President continues to refuse to condemn this violent chant. Simply speaking out internationally about these issues has made the civil rights organization I represent, AfriForum, the target of a high treason police investigation back in South Africa. I urge all decent nations, as well as the UN and this Forum, to take a strong stance against the minority rights abuses happening in South Africa, of which the South African government is a main perpetrator.
