challenged. We further agree with draft recommendation no. 21 in the sense that
any legislation that provides for discriminatory treatment of persons or groups
belonging to different religions or beliefs, or for discriminatory application of
nominally neutral legislation, should be condemned.
The EU also encourages States to respect the right to conscientious objection to
military service, based on one's religion or belief, and allow for an alternative
service of a non-combatant or civilian character.
Finally, Madam President, I'd like to reiterate the EU's pledge to fight against all
forms of intolerance on the grounds of religion or belief.
