State me nt for The UN Confe re nce for the Fourth Minority Forum. Ge ne va 29 & 30 Nov 2011,
1. As this is an issue for the rights of at least 8mln minority women in Bangladesh, which is even
more population than Switzerland, the UNO needs to consider this issue with an anxious
scrutiny.
2, The Government of Bangladesh requires to immediately reform Family Code and enact relevant
laws to ensure the rights of our minority women.
3. The women themselves need to come forward to establish and save their rights. The
Government needs to arrange relevant programme and encourage internal and foreign NGOs
to assist in this matter.
4. The Government needs to immediately abolish the Vested Property Act and fairly distribute
the unfairly owned lands among the original owners.
5. The UNO needs to take a serious initiative to monitor these issues. Although certain countries
are monitoring and assisting to establish the rights for the minority women, such as India, USA,
it will be more acceptable and effective if the UNO takes relevant steps for this.
6: There needs the real implementation of all relevant national and international laws. The problems
are not enacting the laws, but its practical implementation in minority women's real life.
7. Multi action including the cooperation among the government, the minority women, relevant
organizations and the international organization; and through these concrete steps this major long
time on going problems will be resolved.
