IDHRV-ARMIL
Madame Chair, excellencies, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen. I am speaking today on
behalf of the Institute for the Documentation of Human Rights Violations against Religious Minorities
in the Levant. To highlight the urgent situation of minority Syrian refugees, who are detained in Turkiye
at the [inaudible] Removal Center. These individuals fled Syria to escape armed conflict, sectarian
violence, and targeted persecution, seeking safety and protection. Instead of protection, they face
inhuman and degrading conditions, in violation of international law. Many are held in overcrowded
rooms, often alongside extremist detainees. Subjected to sectarian threats, harassment, and
psychological pressure. They are coerced to sign voluntary return documents, exposing them to the
risk of refoulement. A clear violation of Article 33 of the 1951 Refugee Convention. Denial of care,
food, sanitation and exposure breaches CAT Article 16 and ICCPR Article 7 and 10. Our documentation
also shows that visitors attempting humanitarian support face obstruction and intimidation. Children
and families wait for hours under harsh conditions, and access to legal counsel and communication is
inconsistent. [CUT OFF BY CHAIR]
