Société algérienne Savante d'onomastique Madam President, In my capacity as an academic and a researcher committed to the study of systems for naming and designating collective memory, I would like to highlight a central notion for peacebuilding and transitional justice: the national foundation of a country’s shared identity references. In many countries, identities are frequently set against one another: the majority against minorities, the predominant language against less widely spoken languages. These oppositions create symbolic hierarchies that endanger social cohesion. In Algeria, the approach adopted is one of the shared belonging of identities, rather than competition between them. The Strategic Framework for Education 2016–2030, the result of collaboration between academic, political and civil society representatives, adopts an inclusive approach and aims to transmit to all pupils throughout the country a common body of cultural, linguistic and historical references that provide the foundation for an egalitarian way of living together. In this model, no language is isolated, including the Amazigh language with its 17 variants. It is neither peripheral nor confined to a particular region; it is fully integrated into history, education, literature and self-representation. It does not represent the expression of a minority; rather, it constitutes a transversal national heritage and forms an integral part of Algerian identity, alongside Arabness and Islam. Inclusivity is not limited to a theoretical concept: it is manifested through genuine indicators of identity-based justice, reflected in the provision of books and teaching materials covering history, geography, language and civic education; the highlighting of identity markers; prehistory and antiquity; literary figures; popular traditions and oral poetry; and the commitment of thousands of teachers trained within university departments, laboratories and specialised centres. There has also been the progressive development of programmes in translation, in [inaudible], in lexicography, and progressive generation. The teaching of transitional justice throughout the national territory is not limited to the legal sphere. It requires the acceptance of narratives, memories and languages. An inclusive national foundation helps to reduce processes of devaluation. Thank you.
