In Chocó, the coexistence of indigenous inhabitants and Blacks offers encouragement for efforts to seek solutions involving cooperation. The Movimiento National por los Derechos Humanos de la Comunidad Negra de Colombia (National Movement for the Human Rights of Colombia's Black Community - CIMARRON) estimates that there are actually 15 million Afro-Colombians, i.e. 45 per cent of the total population.
