Yezidisch Culturel Centrum
Thank you Madame Chair.
My name is [?]. I speak on behalf of the Yezidisch Culturel Centrum in Netherlands.
Minorities, more than everyone, feel the danger of the escalation of hate speech on social media,
which leads to widespread of online societal chaos that results in incitement of violence, criminal
acts and tensions, that harm the entire social fabric and unity and stability of societies. The greatest
damage affects vulnerable minorities, making them more vulnerable to attacks. Campaigns around
special occasions of Yezidisch have a bit of experience in terms of being exposed to hate speech
in various forms. The reason is that besides do not need financial or human capabilities in addition
to the absence of control over them. In addition to playing a better role and employing them for
solid aids, ineffectiveness of states aimed at curbing the spread of hatred and violence online.
Therefore Facebook and assistance should be regulated under international law for human rights,
not through international laws. According to a report by the Masarat Foundation and the National
Center for Confronting Hate Speeches in Iraq, the members fear a huge amount of hate messages
that we consider as a warning bell for the future of minorities, especially since the Report recorded
a widespread to the discourse related to minorities in Iraq and dealt with prominent cases. After
the Fatwa ruling against Muslims celebrating Christmas, a prominent Muslim Turk sent 28.933
messages from multiple sources, (Facebook 28.558 hate messages). The report also monitors 956
hate messages against the Shabaks, Turkmens, and Kakais and a share of hate messages that
reaches 12.063. As for Yazidis, we note that during religious or social events they are exposed to
hate speech in a large way and it puts people who had been subject to genocide in front of great
challenges.
Thank you very much!
