An estimated 9,000 persons per year are held in detention. 11/ The criteria for the detention of asylum-seekers are: (a) That the individual asylum seeker might abscond from the address given, thereby breaking a condition of a grant of Temporary Admission (TA); (b) If there are any doubts over the identity of the asylum seeker or if he or she does not have valid travel documents; (c) If the application has been made after a leave to enter the country has expired (over-stayers); (d) (e) expelled.
