World Barua Organization on Item VI
Yes, madam President,
The historic Declaration on the Rights of the Persons belonging to National or Ethnic,
Religious and Linguistic Minorities in […] by member states of the UN. Is clear profound
and conceptually outlaws […] to empower the minorities around the world to defend their
rights. However after this adoption now for more than 20 years this remains the biggest
challenge and obstacle faced by the religious minorities as we consider the future
opportunities and possibilities to enjoying the Declaration practical implementation, we
cannot forget the obstacles faced by the minority communities who are at risk. Some of
the evidence that we would like to bring the attention to at this Minority Forum is about
the proposed destruction of […] the ancient Buddhist place, which is located about 400
kilometres from Kabul. The Afghan government has granted construction to the China
Metallurgical Group Corporation to mine copper in this city. [interrupted by the Chair]
30 years of armed conflict in Afghanistan suffered a loss of desecration of thousands of
objects and hundreds of sited such as the city of ai-Khanum and Bamyan. The site was
eventually relisted to the site to become protected but too late. Further, the heritage of
Afghanistan is once again faced with violations and impeding loss this time in the case
of […] of [Mesanya]. [Mesanya] is a Barua cultural heritage denoting human and […]
development. We believe that while economical development through the mining of
precious minerals is necessary, however, the justification of the Afghan government
cannot be just because of additional [flaws] and excuses for further destruction of
already weakened heritage. [interrupted by the Chair].
We would like to bring attention of this minority rights forum is about the proposed
destruction of [Mesanya] the ancient Buddhist place, which is located about 400
kilometres from Kabul. The government of Afghanistan has granted the construction to
the China Metallurgical Group Corporation to mine copper in the city of [Mesanya] which
is commencing in December 2012 in spite of a strong opposition from many Buddhist
minorities from all around the world, including the archaeologists and the conservatives.
Thank you.
