Speaker: Thank you Mr. President. I am [inaudible], speaking on behalf of the Humanity
Organization for Civil Activities. Despite all that is stated in the international conventions and
local constitutions regarding the protection of the rights of minorities. The Iraqi minorities are
heading towards extinction. And the remaining ones left have taken up refuge in the
Kurdistani region of Iraq. As it is a safe and [inaudible] region for diversity. In Iraq, there is a
lack of understanding by the state and its institutions of the culture of diversity and
acceptance of the different. And the concept of minority rights have become merely slogans
and ink on paper. Which reflects negatively on a member of society by instilling hate
speeches and rejecting all forms of pluralism. As well as the existence of demographic
change and other violations. All this led to the continued marginalization of the role of
minority and the [inaudible] of the state and the continues migration, displacement and
successive genocides. And thus turning them into minorities from the indigenous people of
the region. Therefore we recommend considering the mechanism for protecting human
rights of minorities [inaudible] one. Imposing censorship on states to prevent violations
against minorities by others. Two, establish legal controls and procedures for anyone who
violates the rights of minorities. Three, activating the role of the media and spreading the
discourse of coexistence among the various components of society. Four, work according to
the principle of positive distinction to guarantee the rights of vulnerable groups. Five, the
government does not exploit minorities through the quota system.
