Dr. Farah Mihlar is an activist scholar who works with minorities and marginalised groups to
advance rights and justice in conflict affected countries, especially in her home country Sri L anka.
She is a Senior Lecturer in Human Rights at the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice
(CENDEP) at Oxford Brookes University. Her academic areas of specialisation are minority rights,
transitional justice and religion and conflict. She currently holds a British Academy grant
researching on ‘Sustaining women’s justice struggles and advancing transformative justice’ in
Lebanon and Sri Lanka where she pioneeringly uses decolonial approaches as part of her methods
to seek new interpretations of justice. She is also the lead researcher on a research project that
interrogates challenges to minority political representation in Sri Lanka. Prior to joining CENDEP
Farah was at the University of Exeter. She made a career change to academia in 2019 followin g
over 15 years of work in human and minority rights and various international organisations and
NGOs.
