A/HRC/18/35/Add.6 Kanak women 90. Kanak women play important roles in Kanak society and in the building of New Caledonia’s future, but they suffer from discrimination in various ways. Greater efforts should be employed to assist Kanak women in their efforts to eradicate this discrimination. 91. The Special Rapporteur welcomes the Customary Senate’s initiative to consult with Kanak women’s associations, and encourages that body to continue to seek the input of Kanak women on a regular basis to ensure that their unique concerns and perspectives are taken into account in law and policy development. 22
