A/68/329
recommends cooperation with the United Nations Educational Scientific and
Cultural Organization, including in the framework of the relevant programmes
set up by the Organization regarding human rights education, racism and
racial discrimination.
152. The Special Rapporteur welcomes information regarding coordination
between governmental structures in order to maximize efforts on the issue of
equality and non-discrimination and mainstream anti-discrimination policies in
public sectors. He encourages such coordinated efforts and also recommends
inclusion of a variety of actors, such as civil society actors, national human
rights institutions and the media. He notes the good practice established by the
cooperation between a national court and a social media outlet to bring to
justice an individual found guilty of posting anti-Semitic messages on his
profile.
153. The Special Rapporteur wishes to stress the role played by the media in
combating the spread of extremist ideas. The media have a responsibility to
combat stereotypes, promote a culture of tolerance and play an integrative role
by providing space for ethnic minorities to also have their voice heard.
154. Furthermore, the Special Rapporteur welcomes initiatives taken to ensure
cooperation at the regional level, including through seminars and conferences.
They represent important venues for exchanging lessons learned and good
practices, but also for identifying remaining challenges at the regional and
international levels. The Special Rapporteur also welcomes the ratification of
the relevant regional human rights instruments.
