COMMITTEE ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD
Twenty-third session
CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS SUBMITTED BY STATES PARTIES
UNDER ARTICLE 44 OF THE CONVENTION
Concluding observations of the Committee on the
Rights of the Child: Armenia
1.
At its 603rd and 604th meetings (see CRC/C/SR.603-604), held on 20 January 2000,
the Committee on the Rights of the Child considered the initial report of Armenia
(CRC/C/28/Add.9), which was submitted on 19 February 1997, and adopted the following
concluding observations.
A. Introduction
2.
The Committee regrets that the State party report (CRC/C/28/Add.9) was not prepared
according to the Committee’s guidelines for initial reports. In particular, apart from in the
spheres of health, welfare and education, there are significant gaps in information relating to
general measures of implementation, general principles, civil rights and freedoms, and special
protection measures. The Committee notes the timely submission of the written answers to the
list of issues (CRC/C/Q/ARM/1) and the high level of the delegation in attendance, which
enabled a constructive dialogue to take place. Moreover, the Committee appreciated the frank
and open nature of the dialogue.
At the 615th meeting, held on 28 January 2000.
