Report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human
rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people
Summary
The present report, on activities carried out between October 2006 and July
2007, highlights some indigenous rights issues which the Special Rapporteur deems
to be worthy of special attention.
The report is divided into different sections that describe the various activities
carried out by the Special Rapporteur in the framework of his mandate, such as
following up on his recommendations, promoting indigenous rights and providing
technical advice in that regard. This report includes the Special Rapporteur’s views
on new challenges with respect to the protection of indigenous peoples’ rights
throughout the world, as well as a specific analysis of the situation of indigenous
rights in Asia.
