Situation of human rights in the Sudan
The General Assembly,
Guided by the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights, 1/ the International Covenants on Human Rights, 2/ the
International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial
Discrimination, 3/ and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 4/
Reaffirming that all Member States have an obligation to promote and
protect human rights and fundamental freedoms and to comply with the
obligations laid down in the various instruments in this field,
Recalling the obligation by all parties to respect international
humanitarian law,
Recalling also its resolution 49/198 of 23 December 1994, and taking
note of Commission on Human Rights resolution 1995/77 of 8 March 1995, 5/
