organizations, national platforms for disaster risk reduction, focal points for the
Hyogo Framework for Action, local government representatives, scientific
institutions and the private sector, as well as organizations of the United Nations
system and intergovernmental organizations, at the Third World Conference and
during its preparatory process;
13. Stresses the importance of mainstreaming a gender perspective and the
perspectives of persons with disabilities in disaster risk management so as to
strengthen the resilience of communities and reduce social vulnerabilities to
disasters, and in this regard recognizes the need for the inclusive participation and
contribution of women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities, indigenous
peoples and local communities in all forums and processes related to disaster risk
reduction;
14. Reiterates the importance of regional coordination in the framework of
the preparatory process in order to promote broad participation in the Third World
Conference, and welcomes in this regard the deliberations of the regional platforms
and meetings which have been held in Ecuador, Egypt, Fiji, Italy, Kazakhstan,
Nigeria and Thailand;
15. Takes note of the update on progress regarding the implementation of the
Hyogo Framework for Action at the national, regional and global levels, as
contained in the report entitled “Implementation of the Hyogo Framework for
Action: summary of reports 2007–2013”, and notes the support work of
intergovernmental organizations and other relevant bodies in this regard;
16. Acknowledges the importance of the work of the United Nations in
disaster risk reduction, the growing demands on the secretariat of the International
Strategy for Disaster Reduction and the need for increased, timely, stable and
predictable resources for the implementation of the International Strategy, and in
this regard requests the Secretary-General to recommend options on how best to
support the implementation of the natural disaster reduction strategy so as to enable
the secretariat to effectively coordinate the implementation of the post-2015
framework for disaster risk reduction;
17. Requests the Secretary-General to bring the outcome document of the
Third World Conference to the attention of Member States, relevant international
and regional organizations, multilateral financial institutions and the regional
development banks, as well as relevant intergovernmental processes and
conferences;
18. Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its seventieth session,
under the item entitled “Sustainable development”, the sub-item entitled
“International Strategy for Disaster Reduction”;
19. Requests the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assembly at its
seventieth session a report on the implementation of the present resolution,
including on the outcome of the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk
Reduction.
