In his capacity as Special Rapporteur, he participated in a conference on tolerance for differences of religion or belief organized by the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, from 19-22 October 1986, in which representatives of the main contemporary ideological systems participated. On this occasion, the Special Rapporteur met representatives of the Minnesota Lawyers International Human Rights Committee. He also visited the United States of America in December 1986 at the invitation of American religious and secular associations.
