Report of the Special Rapporteur on the human rights
of migrants
Summary
The present report outlines the main activities undertaken by the Special
Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants since the most recent report to the General
Assembly. The report contains a study on effective access to justice for migrants,
which includes the right to information and interpretation, legal aid and representation,
consular assistance and access to remedies and redress. The study analyses the
obstacles faced by migrants in their access to justice and stresses the need to foster the
establishment of “firewall” protections to safeguard this right. In addition, the study
contains recommendations to States to ensure effective access to justice for migrants,
including those with particular protection needs.
