Madam President, Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name Rawad Jaber, from Lebanon, and I represent the Druze minority, a Muslim religious
minority.
Thank you for providing us with this opportunity.
The Druze have always been a numerical minority wherever they are found, especially in
Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Jordan.
Since the inception of the sect, it has faced many and varied challenges depending on the
period, place and circumstances.
Lebanon today, is going through many crises, especially the past four years, with most
segments of Lebanese society, particularly the Druze, suffering extremely difficult economic
and living conditions,
Based on the awareness of the spiritual authority of the Druze community in Lebanon of the
difficulty of the social and economic challenges, and based on all the efforts made by the
authority, especially at the level of dialogue and harmony with others, and its awareness
that communication and dialogue are the basis for confronting common challenges, we
present to this high-level forum the following recommendations.
1. Carrying out joint projects that enhance rapprochement, participation and coexistence,
such as investing in the endowments of each group or establishing agricultural or industrial
projects that contribute to strengthening the youth’s attachment to their land and
environment, and increase interaction between them regardless of sectarian affiliations.
2. Ensuring the interaction of minorities through civil initiatives and social activities that
address common issues. For example: Preserving family and values, combating addiction
and drugs, promoting a culture of tolerance towards others and coexistence, and
promoting the concept of citizenship that embraces religious and cultural diversity.
Thank you for your attention.
