Barzani Charity Foundation statement on 15th session
of minority forum 2022
Iraq, often referred to as the “cradle of civilisations”, has
been a country of great diversity and a unique and rich with
various ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic communities
since ancient history.
However It saddens us to know that the diversity of Iraq is
now under great threat and the ethnic minorities such as
kurd targeted, marginalised and unprotected.
Barzani Charity Foundation believes that It’s UN and
international communities duty now to understand what
lies behind these attacks and to identify what measures
should be taken to ensure their protection and protect and
guarantee stable and peaceful co-existence for all the people
of Iraq, irrespective of their identity and faith.
It is clear that while the so-called ISIS has created immense
suffering and has targeted certain communities, especially
our Ezidy community more than any other group due to
their faith, nevertheless the challenges facing Kurdish
minorities started long before arrival of ISIS, and attacked
against kurd has increased by various groups and countries
since referendum for Kurdistan independent in 2017.
The constant violence against kurd by state and non-estate
actors does constitute the barbaric and systematic policy of
ethnic cleansing by some countries in region.
Kurdish people in Middle East seek solutions and the
solutions must therefore be far-reaching and confront long-
