Jaffna Civil Society for Equality (JCSE) on Item III Honourable chair, distinguished delegates, my most pressing concern is the recent islamophobia and humanitarian crisis of religious minorities regarding number 23 of the Draft recommendation relating to the acts of religious hatred. Humanitarian crisis [violates almost areas] of human rights. Honourable Chair, the word “Islam” has derived from the word meaning “peace” in Arabic. Islam is a religion of 1.5 billion people worldwide. Since its founding more than 1400 years ago, Muslims have contributed and continue to contribute to the positive development of human civilisations. This encompasses all areas of human endeavours including arts, culture, science, medicine, [treasure] and much more. Recently, […] a small number of extremist graduates or groups that have conducted terrorist activities while claiming to speak for the religion of Islam. Their actions have been used as a pretext for a notable [rise] of anti-Muslim [hostilities] and hatred world-wide. And these violent individuals or groups do not reflect in any way the values or teaching in the religion of Islam. In fact, they misrepresent the religion. We categorically reject all their activities, they in no way represent the religion, the beliefs, and they [disable] Muslims to access in peace with all peoples of the world. Incidents of anti-Muslim hate crimes, systematic attacks and discrimination on rights particularly in countries such as India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. One needs to only look at the plate of […] the Muslim minority in Myanmar to understand the aggravation of this issue. Thus we would urge you and the governments to take a truly comprehensive approach and to have more effective mechanisms when affirming the relevant human rights standards. We call upon the states and non-state holders to recognise the extremist individuals do not represent the religion of Islam and […] all forms of islamophobia. Finally I would like to conclude my intervention with the world from the holy Quran: Humanity is but a single brotherhood so make peace with your brother. Thank you.
