PM Slovenia Thank you Madame Chair. At the outset, let me reaffirm Slovenia’s commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of persons belonging to minorities. Safeguarding minority rights is essential for social cohesion, democratic principles, solidarity, and sustainable peace. At the international level and as a member of the Human Rights Council in term 2026-2028, Slovenia will pay special attention to the protection of minorities globally. We will continue to cooperate closely with UN mechanisms and civil society to promote equality and inclusion. Nationally, Slovenia maintains strong institutions and legal frameworks for constitutionally protected Italian, Hungarian, and Roma communities, as well as other communities living in Slovenia. We are committed to promoting intercultural dialogue, human rights education, and the preservation of linguistic and cultural diversity, all vital for community cohesion and trust. Education empowers minorities to understand their history, gain visibility, and challenge marginalization. Ensuring their self-representation is equally essential for social recognition and building an inclusive society. Slovenia implements comprehensive measures to support the integration of the Roma community and prevent discrimination, including in challenging local contexts. We aim to improve educational attainment, increase employment opportunities, reduce social exclusion, and preserve Roma culture. These efforts strengthen intercultural dialogue and cooperation.
