of freedom of religion as provided for in article 4 of the International Covenant on Civil
and Political Rights; and the practice of legislating categories of religions or other forms of
belief.
Finally, the Special Rapporteur insists on the fact that situations related to the question
of religious symbols cannot be easily resolved because other human rights may be at stake.
She emphasizes the importance and equal status of freedom of expression and freedom of
religion.
